CONA (Certified Optical Network Associate) is a comprehensive, vendor-neutral, 5-day training program offered by Optical Technology Training (OTT). It introduces prospective optical network engineers to the fundamentals of optical networking, including single and multi-channel systems utilizing DWDM or CWDM technologies. Topics covered include metro networks, 5G transport, DCIs, long-haul networks, and other WANs. Participants will gain insights into system performance requirements, the impact of Chromatic Dispersion (CD) and Polarization Mode Dispersion (PMD), and methods for their mitigation.

To achieve CONA certification, delegates must pass both an examination and a network design assignment. Those who succeed are eligible to advance to the CONE (Certified Optical Network Engineer) course.

CONE delves into the advanced integration of coherent transmission and digital signal processing, exploring how these technologies have revolutionized optical communications at data rates of 100Gb/s, 400Gb/s, 800Gb/s, and beyond. The course covers the modifications necessary for DWDM systems to operate efficiently at these high data rates.

Key themes of the CONE course include leveraging the right mix of optical and electronic technologies to overcome system limitations and understanding the role of Software-Defined Networking (SDN) in supporting open systems, such as open optical line systems, Open ROADMs, and white box solutions.
